The Saltbush Lamb Company’s commitment to sustainability.
“If it’s not sustainable, it won’t be here for very long. If we don’t regenerate it, there will be no growth into the future. If we want food that isn’t grown in a lab, we better look after the ground that it comes from.”
All farms involved with the Saltbush Meat Company actively utilise Holistic Resource Management, regenerative agricultural practices to ensure their landscape is naturally improving and providing for future generations. Our operation now uses the whole animal in our Lamb and Gravy product so that any animal leaving the property is used completely for our customers.
At the food service side, the meat for the rolls is only defrosted and used according to the demand of the crowd at the event, so there is minimal product wastage and all our efforts to produce it are rewarded.
Food service packaging is a biodegradable single serve tray. This tray can be composted and turned into a product for providing nutrients back to the land and provide more food for animals in the long term.
We not only reduce waste at a local level, but our farms are helping capture vast volumes of atmospheric carbon and reverse climate change. Saltbush sucks carbon out of the atmosphere. It would be wonderful to see a carbon trading program accessing the power of Saltbush and paying farmers for the work they are already doing.
If it’s not sustainable, it won’t be here for very long. If we don’t regenerate it, there will be no growth into the future. If we want food that isn’t grown in a lab, we better look after the ground that it comes from.
The original business that Andrew Sippel established, Grazing Management Systems, used the Saltbush plant to help prevent the spread of salt-affected land degradation in the Australian Landscape. This was only just the beginning of what this amazing Native Australian shrub can give us. The longevity of this plant's lifespan ensures a quality feed-base well into the future. The plant has since sustained a business and sprouted another since 1995 and we look forward to the next 30 years ahead.
We work with farmers who have won Landcare Awards and are fine examples of best practice to Regenerative Agriculture in their communities. The Regen community is a growing population and a platform where people who wish to know about the source of their food can find the best producers possible.
We’re all for ethical farming practices. This is how we work:
Our lambs are only slaughtered when they have a “home” to go to - effectively, we kill to order.
Our lambs enjoy a good life on NSW farms - feeding on saltbush in open paddocks. Our lambs are chemical and hormone-free.
We developed our signature lamb and gravy roll product to be sustainable. There is no waste - the entire lamb is used.
